We had a wonderful class this week at CYT 's (Christian Youth Theater's) advanced dance class. We are learning dance skills and putting them all together in fun choreography to excerpts from the musical "Newsies". Below is a glance at the students working on a dance impovisation exercise at the end of class. We are blessed to be a part of this wonderful organization that produces quality theater as well as growing character values in children.

You know what the cool thing is here at Agape Dance Academy? It's that it's not all about ballet. Yes, we love dance, and we dance alot! But lifelong memories and relationships are being made behind the scenes. We strive to produce and atmosphere of encouragement, supportiveness, and learning and growing in character as well as in our dance technique. We look to teachers as role models for the students in all areas of their lives, and we expect students to strive for improving relationships amongst each other in a field that can be riddled with the negativity of competitivesness.

We are looking forward to our Groupon special coming out on October 19th for primary ballet classes for ages 3-7 year olds in Scotts Valley. It's a whole month of classes that emphasize technique, imagination, and the international culture of classical ballet. It's a great deal at just $30.00 for a month of classes and an adorable ballet dress in either pink or blue depending on the class level. Tell your friends or come down to Agape Dance Academy and take a peek at this beautiful dance class.

We love media arts at Agape Dance Academy. Bringing the beauty of ballet and dance into nature and the camera. Here are a few shots of our latest beach photoshoot at the Santa Cruz beaches. Wonderful time for all with photographer Meredith Klein.

Each week from September through December each student practices their role in the Nutcracker. Two weeks before the ballet opens, the entire cast gets together for a full-run through. This is a very inspiring time for the younger dancers who get a chance to watch the lead dancers execute skills that have taken them years to attain. This is the day where all dances come together and we get a chance to see what the individual rehearsals have produced for the whole.

Here are some beginning pointe excersises at the barre for developing strength in ankles, legs , and upperbody. Ballet dreams are made for many when they graduate to pointe classes as part of their comprehensive dance training here in Scott's Valley.

Dancers at Agape Dance Academy in Scotts Valley putting on their pointe shoes during auditions for the Nutcracker. Dancers here wear their pointe shoes everyday (toe shoes as some call them). We use them everyday to develop strength in both the foot, ankles, legs and upper body. It takes a tremendous amount of strength to go up properly over the box (lower portion of the pointe shoe ) and maintain balance long enough to execute multiple turns and other moves. Its not all about the toes. It's about gaining enough upperbody strength to pull the weight out of the shoes as to not over stress the ankles. Dancers go on pointe every year at Agape Dance Academy in Scotts Valley. Summer intensives are the most common time for students to go on pointe as they have extra time in the summer to devote to intense training while they are out of school.
